Dr. Robbie Westerman, DNP-PMHNP, began his psychiatry career after struggling with co-occurring substance abuse and mental health problems as a young adult. Dr. Robbie's ability to relate to patients and optimize treatment planning using his knowledge in neurology, psychopharmacology, and personal experience with addiction is an asset he has been employing for over nine years. Dr. Robbie has worked with renowned author and speaker Dr. Claudia Black Ph.D. and numerous addictionologist at the famous Meadows in Wickenburg and has carried these clinical pearls to hospitals and substance abuse centers around the valley. Dr. Robbie is well-versed in various treatments for both substance use disorders using ASAM guidelines and general psychiatric conditions. He completed his training at The University of Arizona and interned as a provider at GenHealth, COPA health, and The Meadows. Dr. Robbie believes that the ingredients for mental health triumph include patient-specific neurologic approaches using individualized pharmacologic interventions, strong therapeutic alliance, and sustained follow-up. Dr. Robbie is a provider who often says, “I get paid to do what I love and want them to know I love what I do.” When he is not on-site, he can be found relaxing with his 3 children, all girls, and speaking at treatment centers around the valley. Dr. Robbie’s goal is to have a strong therapeutic alliance with every client at Fountain Hills Recovery. Robbie makes it a point not only to see clients regularly and well above the required standards of IOP/PHP, but also to call them throughout the week and just talk about how things are going and progress. He believes “Track Meet Psychiatry” has wreaked havoc in the field and believes that the provider-client relationships should be considered essential. While at Fountain Hills Recovery, you can be rest assured that you will have a provider that is knowledgeable in recovery coupled with general psychiatry.
